DODGE CITY, KANSAS – The first full week in May brought numerous severe thunderstorms and tornados to many parts of Oklahoma. On Saturday May 10 at Dodge City Raceway Park, the United States Super Trucks from the Oklahoma region, brought some tornadic activity of their own to lay down on the fast 3/8 mile oval in Dodge City. As expected, the USST guys brought some great looking race trucks to town to give the fans quite a show.
The first heat race of the night was won by Eric Caudell in the number 7 Racinxs Silverado, followed by the 4 truck of Joe Madore in the Eyecare Specialists F-150. Madore started on the back of the pack after getting to the track just minutes before the first heat race to challenge Caudell for the lead, but the Racinxs 7 truck held Madore off for the ten lap dash. The second heat race was just as exciting with USST points leader Jere Fletchall in the Dollar Transportation number 28 Chevy trying to hold off Scott Deatherage who trails Fletchall by only two points in the championship race. Deatherage and his number 44 Dees Tire Stores Gemini Auto Care Silverado would pester Fletchall all night long but would have to settle for second in the heat race.
The main event got underway with a strong north wind and temperatures in the 50s. Things got exciting when the green flag dropped and the land rush for turn one began. As the field entered turn one, part of the field was already going three wide and something was going to have to give, and it did. Fletchall, and Bob Holbrook in the number six truck, brought out the first caution of the night when the two collided on the front stretch sending the 6 truck of Holbrook into a victory style 360. The field realigned and got started quickly with Madore taking the lead follwed by Caudell and Fletchall. Madore would hold his lead throughout the entire race with Fletchall, Caudell, and Deatherage challenging. On lap 23 the number 7 of Caudell got tangled up with the 26 truck driven by Shorty Burks of Arcadia, Oklahoma, sending both of them to the back of the field. When the race restarted it was Madore, Fletchall, and Deatherage vying for position for the remaining 17 laps. By lap 34 Caudell had worked his way back up to fourth, pressing Deatherage, while Deatherage was pressing Fletchall.
When the checkered flag fell Joe Madore was the winner followed by
Fletchall, Deatherage, and Caudell. Ron
Polodna of Bolivar, Missouri rounded out the top five.
Jeremy Petty of Smolan, Kansas was sixth followed by Mike Lunlow in the
Sonic 44x. Eighth went to Brandon
Hrubetz of Dodge City, followed by Robert Bailey and Shorty Burks to fill out
the top ten.
The next USST event, the Super Truck 100, is scheduled for May 24 at the super high banked half mile
I-70 Speedway in Kansas City, Missouri. After the race there will be a function and bonfire to celebrate this inaugural race. The USST series is truly giving the fans something to get excited about.
